Timeless

One of my housemates told me that she planned to stay up all night and studied for her tomorrow’s midterm. I sighed. That’s just not worthy. When the midterm or final approaches, those study lounges and library will full fill with hard working students. Most of them try to finish reading their chapters and do as many practice problems as they can. Even they know that the midterm or final is at tomorrow, they still want to make effort at the last moment. This might be one of the common phenomena in college. I guess most of the students might have the same experiences as my roommates.

Staying up all night is not a good decision. I didn’t feel I’m ready for the math final in last quarter, and so I decided to scarify my sleeping time and went over what I learned in the math class. At that night, I planned to finish all the sample midterm and go over all the rules and formulas. I started to feel sleepy at 2 a.m. in the morning, but I told myself that I cannot give up and so I kept doing sample problems. Eventually, I found that I cannot finish all of my tasks and focus on doing my final. After I experienced this, I realized that the learning efficiency will decrease and it will also make effect on the next day’s mental status. Actually, everyone knows that, but they still cannot avoid doing that. Why? The problem is they don’t know how to manage the time in order to finish their work. They always wait until the last minute. That is also my problem. Instead of staying all night, we should consider how to manage our time.

  1. It is so true that staying up all night is not working. But I am doing it right now too. I guess it is just some human mechanism that if people do not finish stuff, they will not going to sleep. I guess this is happening almost everyone right now at this time period. And I hope you do not need to do it in this way in this quarter too.

  2. I was planning on to stay up all night yesterday, but as usual I failed. Sigh, I'm pretty sure if I don't stay up today, I will fail both of my midterms. yah, just like you said, it is all about time management.

  3. yes. I think this situation occurs to everyone of us too. And staying up the whole night really not work. On the other hand, it will make you become more sleepy and tired tomorrow, which then affect your performance on midterm. Therefore, it is the best to manage time wisely, and study beforehand. However, it is really hard to study beforehand too.
