Timeless

One of my housemates told me that she planned to stay up all night and studied for her tomorrow’s midterm. I sighed. That’s just not worthy. When the midterm or final approaches, those study lounges and library will full fill with hard working students. Most of them try to finish reading their chapters and do as many practice problems as they can. Even they know that the midterm or final is at tomorrow, they still want to make effort at the last moment. This might be one of the common phenomena in college. I guess most of the students might have the same experiences as my roommates.

Staying up all night is not a good decision. I didn’t feel I’m ready for the math final in last quarter, and so I decided to scarify my sleeping time and went over what I learned in the math class. At that night, I planned to finish all the sample midterm and go over all the rules and formulas. I started to feel sleepy at 2 a.m. in the morning, but I told myself that I cannot give up and so I kept doing sample problems. Eventually, I found that I cannot finish all of my tasks and focus on doing my final. After I experienced this, I realized that the learning efficiency will decrease and it will also make effect on the next day’s mental status. Actually, everyone knows that, but they still cannot avoid doing that. Why? The problem is they don’t know how to manage the time in order to finish their work. They always wait until the last minute. That is also my problem. Instead of staying all night, we should consider how to manage our time.

Show your peace and love

Recently, a video called “Fight on SF Muni Bus in Chinatown” was uploaded on YouTube. Many people were interesting in this video and it has already reached 500,000 hits with a lot of comments and video responses in one week. The fight was basically about a Chinese woman who asked an African American woman for a seats and the Africa American woman refused her in a nasty way. Some viewers watched this as entertainment and cannot stop making fun of the Chinese woman’s accent, and some viewers felt angry after watching the video because the African American woman discriminated against the Asian and violent. Also, there are some admirations about how bravo the Chinese woman is. This is my first time to watch a fight like this. I cannot image that such fight would happen on the SF Muni.

One of the viewers criticized the African American because she is the one who started the fight and the Chinese woman was only want to defend. I totally disagree with that. The African American woman is not the only one who should be criticized. The Chinese woman and other passengers who were on the bus also need to be criticized. Even thought the Chinese woman asked for a seat in polite way at the beginning and she is not the one who started the fight, she hit and said those f**king words to the African American woman. If both of them can claim down and try to be nice at the beginning, the fight won’t happen. If the passengers can stop them from arguing at the beginning, they won’t start to fight on the bus. It really brings a negative effect to the society. Some people will think that violence is one of the ways to solve problem, but that is totally wrong. Violence cannot solve problem, but to make thing become worse. This incident lets me know that we should always use a peaceful way to deal with problem and create a harmonious place for our own. If everyone can show peace and love to others, the tragedy won’t happen. Everything will change because of your one small step.

Diagnostic

I only treated myself as a writer, when I got through the writing assignments in college. I seldom express my feeling or opinions outside academy by writing. I do not get used to write journal or blog because I'd rather use camera to record my feeling. As a writer, I always want to be critically or persuasively. However, it does not always work out in that way. I would say I am still a newbie writer. "How to write?" is always a question for me. In order to upgrade my writing to another level, I know that I still need a lot of practices and readings. There is still a long way to go...

The environment affects me a lot as a thinker. From kindergarten to university, the environment couldn't stop changing. The people around me also changed. Those changes provided me different resources and ideas. Especially, my parents, my friends and teachers are important for me. Their experiences gave shape to my thought. They all have their own ideas about a specific event. That helps me a lot because I can comprehend an event in different ways. However, I do not absorb everything from what they say. Every time I heard one's opinion, I would try to think whether this is right or wrong for me. What people think are always true since they have their own logic and reason, but I can decide what I should believe. In a debate, there are two sides of an argument. Since each side has its own statement and evidences, it is really difficult to say which side is true. I believe one thing people can do is to decide which side is more reasonable for them.
